PARTIAL SCHOOL CLOSURE – THURS 27TH APRIL AND TUES 2ND MAY 2023

Advanced information about proposed strike action by NEU on Thursday 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May 2023

Following previous strike action by members of the NEU, the next scheduled strikes are due to take place on Thursday 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May 2023.

To remind all parents, the formal trade dispute is about ‘the Secretary of State for Education failing to provide sufficient funds to employers to pay a fully funded increase in teacher’s pay at a rate greater than inflation’.

I would also like to remind you that schools are facing real challenges over teacher recruitment and retention. This has a long-term effect on the quality of education for our children and must be addressed by the government. Members of our teaching staff will make their own decision about strike action.

The reduced number of teaching staff on site on Thursday 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May 2023 does not allow us to open the Academy as normal.

Therefore on both days the school will only be open to:-

  • Years 11, 12 and 13 - we have prioritised these year groups due to their forthcoming examinations and assessments.
  • Those students who are classed as vulnerable (if your child falls into this group you will receive a separate letter)

The school will be closed on:

  • Thursday 27th April to Years 7, 8, 9 and 10
  • Tuesday 2nd May 2023 to Years 7, 8, 9 and 10

Learning Plans for the two strike days

As with the previous strike days we will invite into school students we know to be vulnerable.

Year 11

Students in Year 11 should come into school on both days where they will take part in lessons as normal.

Students who are not in school

When not in school, students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 will follow a slightly different day and will find their work posted on Satchel:One for them to complete at home. Work will be posted by 8:30am on Thursday 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May 2023.

Information about planned PPEs (Mock Exams) for Year 10

Students in Year 10 were due to sit pre public exams on Thursday 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May 2023 but owing to the strike action will be rescheduled as follows:

  • Year 10 pre public exams due to take place on Thursday 27th April will now take place on Friday 5th May
  • Year 10 pre public exams due to take place on Tuesday 2nd May will now take place on Thursday 4th May

I have tried to give parents and carers as much notice as possible and appreciate that this partial closure will be very disruptive for you and your family, for which I can only apologise.

I would ask parents and carers to plan accordingly for Thursday 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May 2023.

I hope that the Government and Unions can come to an agreement and minimise the disruption to education.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs C. Aitcheson

Headteacher
