Countesthorpe Academy Boys Compete in Regional Finals of Chemistry Competition

On Saturday 13th January Aspen, Jayden, Filip and Nathan competed in the regional finals of the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Top of the Bench chemistry competition.

The boys had previously taken part in a quiz to choose the three best schools from each region to compete in the competition so it was a fantastic achievement to get through to the regional finals.

We competed for the Leicestershire region against other schools from across Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Rutland. Seventeen schools took part on the day at the University of Derby where they had a paper quiz to do together and then a couple of practical problems to complete as well. We were also treated to a demonstration lecture from the University organisers of some fantastic colour changing experiments.

Although the team didn’t win, we had a fantastic day and the students were excellent ambassadors for the Academy, demonstrating all of our core values. They received a special mention during the prize giving for their fantastic lab skills, as they produced the best rainbow in one of the practical activities- apparently it was pretty much perfect!

We are extremely proud -  well done!
