Countesthorpe Academy Students Take Part in Blaby Youth Conference

⭐Yesterday, 19 students from Y7-12 attended the Blaby Youth Conference as representatives of the academy.

They took part in a variety of workshops throughout the day, covering hate crime, the logistics and finance of running a large utility, in this case Severn Trent Water, and a theatre workshop on coercive control in relationships.

The day culminated in a debate, alongside local councillors and a number of other schools in the county, on the issues that our young people would like addressed by the National Youth Council and local politicians.

Alberto Costa, our Blaby District MP, addressed the room in a recorded message from the chambers of Parliament and explained how last year’s main debate item, on the accessibility and marketing of vapes to young people, had been debated in Parliament as a direct result of last year’s Youth Conference. This powerfully demonstrated the importance of the voice of our students in national politics!

The students were engaged, articulate and impeccable ambassadors for our academy, and a great day was had by all.⭐
